Photo…Bird’s house of Boards

Eric “Bird” Huffman has deep roots in the San Diego surf scene, having spent the last five decades living, surfing, and amassing surfboards in the area. “I started collecting boards in about ’73,” Bird says. “I got the first one by trading a guy a pair of trunks for a Mike Hynson. In ’73 nobody cared about a Hynson longboard, so I traded for a pair of shorts that probably cost me 15 bucks.” It was love at first swap, and Bird has been accumulating surf crafts through various means ever since. His collection now stands 460 boards strong. “Every board that you see in here has a distinct story,” says Bird. “That’s really why I started this in the first place.”
