Gregg Rides Wednesday Night Roller Coaster

PETERSEN MEDIA: Kicking off the 2011 Gold Cup, Andy Gregg and his Coors Light 1x got off to a rocky start, as the Placerville, CA native experienced a mix of highs and lows, that ultimately resulted in a poor finish.

Starting off the night in qualifications, Gregg ripped off a stout first lap that put him fifth quick, the second lap Gregg had trouble as a steering part failed as he entered turn three, resulting in a spin, but Gregg kept in out of the wall.

Lining up fifth in his heat, Gregg began working his war toward a top four transfer position until a slowing Chase Johnson made contact with the Bill Bell, Care Free Pools entry, resulting in a sixth place finish for Gregg, and a trip to the ‘B’ main.

Sharing the front row with Andy Forsberg in the B, Gregg was able to fall in line in second place and transfer to the 30-lap feature where he would roll off in the 12th spot.

The feature got off to a rocky start, as Gregg hung his right rear tire off of the turn two cushion and slid off the track. Not bringing out a caution, he was able to gather himself up, and get back on the track in the 22nd spot.

From that point on Gregg and his Coors Light entry were simply on a terror.

Gregg methodically worked the high and low lines of the Silver Dollar Speedway and slowly worked his way back into the top ten by the half way point of the race.

On the 24th circuit, Gregg was able to get under Nicole Miller in turn one to take over the fifth spot.

On the 27th lap, Miller returned the favor as she drove into the left rear of Gregg, spinning him out, and putting him in the rear of the field with just three markers remaining.

At the stripe, Gregg would be scored in the 16th position.

“Man, we really had a good car tonight, and I can’t thank Bill Bell, Brian Cannon, and all these guys for making tonight possible,” said Gregg. “Unfortunately someone got a little mad at us, and decided to move us out of the way, resulting in a poor finish, but that happens.”

ON TAP: Up next for Gregg will be the World of Outlaws portion of the 58th Annual Gold Cup Race of Champions, as he will return to the Silver Dollar Speedway on Friday night.
